“I was thirsty and you gave Me drink” – Matt. 25:35b
This is the second way of inheriting the Kingdom as a believer. Please understand that if God’s will is for you to inherit or enjoy the Kingdom as your own in the Kingdom-future, then His will for you now is to inherit it ‘to a measure’. This is because God does not change and so does His will.
Thirsty Israel
Beloved, in applying this above Scripture to the brethren of our Lord Jesus i.e. the Jewish people, understand that, just as food and water go together, so does the Word of the revelation of Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
So, the Holy Spirit is akin to the Water that God created to quench our thirst – Jn. 7:37-39. Now, if you visit the Holy Land you will discern that it is spiritually a dry place in terms of the Holy Spirit revealing our Lord Jesus. This spiritual dryness is just like the physical dryness of the place. You know, hardly does it literally rain in the State of Israel.
Beloved, the physical dryness of the land territory tells us how dire the Holy Spirit is needed to fall on the people to reveal the Lord Jesus Christ as the Messiah to them. In fact, the rocky nature of the Holy Land is a picture of the spiritual hardness of the hearts of Israel. Such hearts needs to be rained upon, to soften it for the Truth about our Lord Jesus to dawn on them. You know, our Lord Jesus is the Truth and the Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of Truth – Jn. 14:6; 17.
Yes, understand that the Holy Spirit came to glorify, promote and reveal the Lordship of Jesus Christ – Jn. 16:13-15.
Watering Jewish hearts
Yes, it takes the Holy Spirit (as water) to prepare the hardness of human hearts and to plant in them the Truth or Jesus Christ – Jn. 14:26, – “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I have said to you.”
Beloved, the Holy Spirit has to teach the brethren of Jesus i.e. the Jewish people about Jesus as the Way, the truth and the life; without whom nobody can come to the Father God – Jn. 14:6. Without the Holy Spirit’s revelation of Jesus to them, no human being can get Jewish people convinced about our Lord Jesus Christ. So, all believers need to pray for the Water of Life to spiritually ‘rain’ on the Holy Land and the Jewish people everywhere. This is important because “if their fall (because of the spirit of stupor on them) is riches for the world and their failure riches for the Gentiles, how much more their fullness!” – Rom. 11:8, 12.
The Spirit of God vrs. The spirit of stupor
Beloved, Jesus’ Jewish brethren need to be full of the Spirit of God instead of the spirit of stupor which has blinded them. Thus the Bible says you should not be drunk with wine but be filled with the Spirit– Eph. 5:18. So, the spirit of stupor or drunkenness is overcome by the Spirit of God. All believers, therefore, have a responsibility to pray for the Holy Spirit to flood the Holy Land for the revelation of Jesus and His Kingdom system that He brought to dawn on them – Acts 1:6-8a, “Therefore when they (i.e. the eleven apostles who had been tuned to the Kingdom of God for forty consecutive days – Acts 1:3.) had come together, they asked Him (i.e. Jesus), saying, Lord, will You at this time restore the Kingdom to Israel? And He said to them, it is not for you to know the times or seasons which the Father has put in His Own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…”. Emphasis mine.
Beloved, our Lord Jesus so much taught about the Kingdom of God that His Jewish believers wanted the Kingdom system for their nation. To this, our Lord told them to receive the Holy Spirit and leave the time for giving back the Kingdom (to the Jewish people) to God.
What these apostles did was to pray continually in unity until the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit fell on them – Acts 1:14, 2:1-3. Now, as it was in the beginning of the Church age, so should we do during this end of the Church-age. We need to pray in one accord for the Holy Spirit to fall on the Holy Land and all Jewish people in the Diaspora to receive Jesus and His Kingdom system. This will even lead to the perfecting of the Gentile Church so that our Lord Jesus will come for the Rapture during which the dead in Christ will rise first– 1 Thess. 4:16-17;
Rom. 11:15,
“For if their being cast away (from the Kingdom system – Matt. 21:43) is the reconciling of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?”. So, Israel’s acceptance of the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord will be the time of the Rapture of the saints and God’s work on Israel. And this will usher in the Millennium.

Physical quenching of thirst
Now, just as the Holy Spirit is the Spirit that gives life to our human spirits, so does water ‘give life’ to the human body. This is why it is imperative for all believers to aim at maintaining human dignity by providing pure water to thirsty people.
Beloved, it is not God’s will for humans everywhere to be deprived of well-treated drinking water. Have you seen a thirsty person before? He acts crazy. And have you seen an extremely thirsty person before? He becomes so weak and dehydrated that he looks helpless.
Protect water bodies
This is not God’s will at all. So, the people of God need to champion the protection of our water bodies so that we can treat them for people to drink for life. As simple and ‘unspiritual’ as this may sound to you, it is God’s way of making you enjoy Kingdom life now for the future. Yes, God’s commandments are not burdensome at all. This is because the Holy Spirit the spiritual Water of life will help you to prepare physical water of life to thirsty nations and lives.
Remember that if there is no Kingdom enjoyment now, there can be no Kingdom enjoyment in the future. Yes, there is much joy in offering pure drinking water to the thirsty. This joy is a foretaste of the joy of your Lord that God will reward you with in the Kingdom-future – Matt. 25:21,23.
