RELIGION AND FINANCES

Religion and Finances

Was the Lord Jesus poor or rich?. This is an important question to answer at this point, in this discussion on Kingdom finance.
It is because the religious segments of Christendom hold it that, our Jesus was a barely-getting-along Person. And that, to follow Him is to be a struggler in life, barely holding your head above water, always appealing for help, and stretching empty hands to men.

Now, let us ‘walk’ through the New Testament, to see you a side of Jesus that religion cannot talk about. This is to help you to get the right balance and Kingdom-picture of Jesus.

‘Righteous’ parents, faithful God

It is likely the parents of Jesus were not poor, as God had promised financial prosperity to Jews who obeyed the Law – Deut. 28: 1-14. Since both of Jesus’ parents were devout and just Jews, God’s financial blessing was most likely on them, because of God’s faithfulness to His promise – Matt. 1:19; Lk. 1:27, 30, 50.

I start this way, just to debunk the religious teaching that, the parents of Jesus could not afford a room to birth Jesus in. The Bible indicates that, there was no vacancy in the village Inn, by the time Joseph and Mary got there. It does not say that, they did not have money to pay for a hotel. After all, they had their own family business, and at least, a private healthy travel-worthy donkey, even as young newlyweds.

This private donkey was the equivalence of a present-day private car.

All indications of poverty that you can point to about the parents of the Lord Jesus Christ should be analyzed in the light of the fact that God is faithful to His Word of promise.

Yes, how could Jesus’ parents be generally described as poor in all their life-time, if you believe God is faithful to His Word to righteous Jews! Beloved, our Jesus did not come from poor unrighteous parents.
